My Blue Heaven

We have a new baby in the family. So it's prime time for rocking. One of the songs I've been using was a favourite of the new baby's great grandfather. He remembered his own mum singing it around the house when he was a lad in 1927. And so it is that the melodies float on down through the generations.

My Blue Heaven was popularised by the early crooner, Gene Austin in 1927. The song became a trans-Atlantic hit and would have been whistled and sung around many 1920s homes. It's easy to find on You Tube, but for copyright reasons we can't reproduce it here.

The song has a perfect tempo and lilting rhythm for rocking ~ or crooning to ~ a little baby. And it has that happiness to it that sometimes can help lift the mood for a new parent going through the sleepless early stages,

My blue heaven (George Whiting and Walter Donaldson, 1924)

Day is ending, birds are wending Back to the shelter of Each little nest they love.

Nightshades falling, lovers calling. What makes the World go round ~ Nothing but love

When whippoorwills call And evening is nigh, I hurry to my Blue Heaven

A turn to the right A little white light Will lead you to my Blue Heaven.

A smiling face, a fireplace, a cosy room A little nest that nestles where roses bloom.

Just Molly and me, And baby makes three, We’re happy in my Blue Heaven

(Orchestral Break)

A smiling face, a fireplace, a cosy room, A little nest that nestles where roses bloom.

Just Molly and me, And baby makes three, We’re happy in my Blue Heaven.

(Whistling)

A smiling face, a fireplace, a cosy room, A little nest that nestles where roses bloom.

Just Molly and me, And baby makes three, We hurry to my Blue Heaven.
